Natural — the all-purpose base
The most versatile jar in the bundle. Mild, with a faint beefy warmth at high heat that disappears into most dishes. It depends on how frequently you cook and how many people you're cooking for — but here is a useful benchmark.

A 250mL jar contains roughly 17–18 serves at the standard tablespoon (14g) measure. For one person cooking once a day, a single jar lasts approximately 2–3 weeks. For a household of two adults cooking 1–2 tablespoons per cook, expect roughly 1.5–2 weeks per jar.

With four jars in the bundle and a natural rotation across flavours, a two-person household cooking primarily with tallow would typically work through the bundle in 6–8 weeks — roughly one new jar from the bundle each fortnight. For lighter cooking use or smaller households, it will stretch further.

The good news is you are not racing against a freshness clock. Tallow at room temperature has a two-year shelf life sealed, and remains stable for months after opening (see Q7). Unlike high-PUFA plant oils that should ideally be used within weeks of opening, tallow's saturated-fat-dominant composition means there is no urgency to get through a jar quickly.

Storage is simple. Keep the jars in a cool, dark cupboard away from direct sunlight and heat sources — a pantry shelf works perfectly. You do not need to refrigerate tallow.

Sealed shelf life: 2 years from the manufacturing date, stored at room temperature.

After opening: Consume within a reasonable timeframe — typically 6–12 months for a jar you're using regularly. Because tallow is predominantly saturated fat, it is far more resistant to rancidity than high-PUFA cooking oils. A jar of tallow that has been sitting in your pantry for three months after opening is not a quality concern; the same cannot be said of an opened bottle of seed oil.

The tallow will soften in warmer Australian weather and firm up in winter — both states are normal. If it solidifies, scoop it out and it will melt quickly in the pan.

Glass jars: All four jars in the bundle use glass, not plastic. This is a deliberate product decision — tallow is frequently warmed (both during portioning and cooking), and glass does not carry the endocrine-disruption risk associated with plastic containers in contact with fat.
